A self help group for people who suffer from 
Agoraphobia ,panic attacks or social phobias 


WHAT HAPPENS AT WALKFREE


Councillors are present to introduce new members to walkfree and to advise them about the groups activities

A group meeting is held for 45 minutes each week. This is lead by a councillor and looks at effective methods for overcoming panic attacks and anxiety 

Walkfree is also a friendly social meeting place .A self help group meets for teas and coffees before and after the group meetings .social and other activities are regularly arranged .

YOU ARE NOT ALONE 

It is estimated that one out of every six people suffer at some point in their lives from panic Attacks.

When I first went for help it took some time to understand my symptoms were due to panic.Then I learned how to control them.I thought I was going to die or lose control.I thought I was going to have a heart attack.Going to the groups helped me so much and now I live a normal life .

WHAT ARE
PANIC ATTACKS ?

panic attack is a brief but frightening period of high anxiety.Symtoms like pounding heart,tight chest,feeling fainter sweating are followed by frighting thoughts like “I’m going to lose control “or 

“I’m going to have a heart attack “
A panic attack is not medically harmful but it can be very frightening.panic attacks come on very quickly and can seem to come out of the blue.

WHAT IS AGORAPHOBIA ?

Agoraphobia means fear of going out and about,usually because the person is fearful of having a panic attack or symptoms. This can become a habit which is difficult.

WHAT IS
SOCIAL PHOBIA ?

 This is fear of doing something to embarrass yourself in front of others eg blushing,not having anything to say .looking nervous.
